Abstract

In the program of work of the United States Department of Agriculture for the fiscal year 1917, Prof. O. H. Benson gives in part the following as the object of club work. “To interest boys and girls, and through them farm men and women, in farm, farm-home, and rural-community problems; to teach them better methods of farm, garden and home practice. The Department of Agriculture has been engaged for some ten years in the organization of boys and girls clubs. The primary purpose of the work is to develop the spirit of self help among boys and girls on the farm; to bring them in touch with the work of the Department of Agriculture, the Agricultural Colleges and the schools; and to encourage them in securing such an education as will aid in making of themselves useful and successful workers, home makers and citizens.
