Abstract

Recent developments in the theory of pion double exchange reactions on nuclei are discussed. The talk includes two main subjects. First, the DCX theory for open shell nuclei is described and the relation to two-body correlations among valence nucleons is emphasized. The properties of the effective two-body DCX transition operator are explored with particular emphasis on the range and spin dependence of such operators. In the second part, we present the theoretical background of the new phenomenon of isotensor double giant resonances observed in DCX reactions.
