Abstract
Paul Langevin was not only an outstanding physicist, but also a great progressive public figure and friend of the Soviet Union. In 1924 he was elected Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the U.S.S.R., and in 1929 he was made Honorary Member. He was also an honorary member of different academies and scientific societies in a number of countries; in 1928 he was elected a Foreign Member of the Royal Society of London, and in 1934 he was elected to the French Academy of Sciences. This honour he merited as a physicist for exceptionally important scientific research.
