Abstract
16S ribosomal RNA from the mycolate-less wall IV actinomycetes Amycolata autotrophica, Actinopolyspora halophila, Amycolatopsis azurea, Amycolatopsis fastidiosa, Saccharopolyspora erythraea, Saccharomonspora viridis and “Group A” strain A54 were partially sequenced using reverse transcriptase. The sequences were aligned and homology values computed between these and previously published sequences for Faenia rectivirgula, Pseudonocardia thermophila and Saccharopolyspora hirsuta. The resulting phylogenetic tree showed that the mycolateless wall IV actinomycetes (except Amycolata) form a distinct group for which the rank of family is proposed. The name of this new family is Pseudonocardiaceae.
