Abstract
A systematic investigation of photosynthetic hydrogen production using a blue-green alga, Anabaena cylindrica, has been carried out. The results indicate that there are two important problems which must be overcome for large-scale hydrogen production using photosynthetic processes. These are (a) the development of a stable system, and (b) attainment of at least a fifty-fold increase in the rate of hydrogen evolution per unit area illuminated.
