Abstract

The phosphors CaYBO 4:Eu 3+ were synthesized by solid-state reaction. Their luminescent properties were studied under ultraviolet (UV) and vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) regions. The excitation spectrum showed that the charge transfer (CT) excitation band of Eu 3+ at about 245 nm was dominated in the UV region, while two weak broad bands of the host lattice with maxima at 160 and 183 nm were observed in the VUV region. With the incorporation of Sr 2+ or Ba 2+ into CaYBO 4:Eu 3+ lattice, the CT band of Eu 3+ as well as the band absorption of the host lattice were enhanced with the CT band a little red shifted. The photoluminescence (PL) spectra showed that the intense red emission of CaYBO 4:Eu 3+ was located at 610 nm under the excitation of either 254 or 147 nm, and the incorporation of Sr 2+ or Ba 2+ could improve the luminescent intensity of Eu 3+, remarkably.
