Abstract

The photoexcitation spectrum of the (0, 0, 0) A 2Π u←(1, 0, 0) X 2Π g band of BO 2 has been obtained. A fit to the frequency measurements provided values for the rotational constant, B ν, the centrifugal distortion correction to the rotational and spin-orbit constants, D ν and A dν, respectively, and the lambda doubling constants, p ν and q ν for the excited and ground electronic states. Values for the excited state parameters were measured (in cm −1) to be B ν′=0.31063(7), A dν′=−6.1(6.4)×10 −5, D ν′=1.2(2)×10 −7, p ν′=8.3(5.1)×10 −3, q ν″= 1.7(6)×10 −4. Values for the ground state parameters are B ν″=0.32843(10), A dν″=9.2(8)×10 −4, D ν″=1.5(2.2)×10 −8, p ν″=2.6(6.4)×10 −3, q ν″=6.2(0.7)×10 −4.Since the results revealed high correlation between the excited and ground state parameters, combination difference fits were done in addition to direct fits to the measured transition frequencies. The results indicate that the C( 2Σ g +) state has a significant effect on the lambda doubling.
