Abstract
This study of the philosophy of aesthetic education in Ch‘an Buddhism is based on the Mandala Sutra of the Sixth Patriarch. The chapter first compares various Chinese and English translations semantically; second, interprets Ch‘an Buddhism’s aesthetic perspective through its unique constructs; third, analyzes the teacher–student interaction portrayed in the text with a view to reconstructing its aesthetic education system; and finally, considers Western aesthetic education theories and contemporary educational contexts, and discusses the application of Ch‘an Buddhism’s aesthetic perspective.
