Abstract
In this article, I attempt to show why and how Kohut's concept of the self is not a reified concept (and, thus, defeats postmodern critiques) and how it is the only nonreligious ground that can be given for why one ought to become an ethical person. I also show why his bipolar model of the self is dynamic and makes phenomenological sense.
