Abstract

In the definitions of dictionaries, the corners which are related to the physical structure of the space firstly, have become into a special and subjective field that contains many layers of meaning when analysed from a phenomenological point of view. In this respect, space is not interpreted independently of the subject, but as a phenomenon that co-exists with the subject. With the production realized in the imagination of the subject; demands and needs such as asylum, the desire of enlargement, imagination, self-isolation, completion, and rejection of social reality constituted by ideological devices. This study aims to give a different perspective to the corners of Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar's Beş Şehir, considering the section of “İstanbul”. In this direction, his work has been examined in detail around the corner phenomenon and it has been found that this special and subjective area corresponds to some imaginary experiences and needs in the city perception of the author.
