Abstract

The liquidus of the phase diagram of MgCl 2·6 H 2O+MgBr 2·6 H 2O mixtures was determined, and a continuous series of mixed crystals was found to be formed on freezing. The freezing point of MgBr 2 · 6 H 2O was confirmed to be 164.4±0.3°C, but on repeated melting—freezing cycles this value decreased, due to loss of water. An approximate value of the specific heat of fusion of MgBr 2 · 6 H 2O, of 150 J g −1, was determined.
