Abstract

The International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) represents over 2 million pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists and has a motto to « Advance Pharmacy Worldwide ». Over the past four decades there has been a trend for pharmacy practice to move away from its original focus on medicinal product supply towards a more inclusive focus on Person care. FIP assumes that pharmacists, in collaboration with other health care providers, can contribute to bridge the gap between the 3 E’s – efficacy, effectiveness and efficiency of medicines, which demands an urgent and fundamental evolution of health care systems. The ethical and methodological principles of Person- and People-centered care are completely integrated within the FIP 20 20 Vision, Mission and Strategic Plan (20 20 Vision means perfect vision- FIP did not set to achieve the Vision mission etc by 2020). The approach for implementing the needed change of practice is through the combination of three development axes: firstly, a research and development axis, secondly, built upon on the first, an education and coaching dimension; and thirdly, regulations for supporting practice based on quality care standards and appropriate financial incentives.
