Abstract

This study aims to describe (1) the structure of personality (2), the dynamics of personality, and (3) the development personality the main character Viktor Larenz. This study uses a psychology approach of psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud. The data source of this research is a novel entitled Die Therapie by Sebastian Fitzek. The data were collected by employing of reading and note-taking with descriptive qualitativ technique. The validity of the data was obtained through semantic validity and expert judgement. The reliability of the data was attained through intrarater and interrater reliability. The results of this study are (1) The structure of personality Viktor Larenz consists of Id, Ego, and Superego. Id affect the main character to pursue satisfaction. He lives in a fantasy world due to schizophrenia, ego assuage the anxiety within the superego controlling the main character and the main character attitudes.(2) The dynamics of personality Viktor Larenz consists of instinctual life (eros), the death instinct (thanatos), neurotic anxiety and realistic anxiety. The instinct of life dominated by libido id form against Anna Spiegel and attempt to survive in order to find Josy. Death instinct arising because Josy was not found. Neurotic anxiety experienced by Viktor when Anna Spiegel came mysteriously and realistic anxiety arises when Viktor know the truth about Anna Spiegel. (3) The development of personality Viktor Larenz form of defense mechanism consisting of repression, sublimation, transfer, reaction formation, rationalization and fantasy. The defense mechanism carried by Viktor to redeem many mistakes against Josy.
