Abstract

ABSTRACT This paper reviews research in the psychology of religion and aging and organizes it into six categories. These reflect enduring questions posed both in philosophy and psychology about (1) the mind/body relationship, (2) sources of knowledge, (3) experiences of and judgments about beauty, (4) reasons for individual behavior, (5) the need for and responses to social interaction, and (6) the search for life meaning. In addition to reviewing current research, the paper suggests new research directions for the psychology of religion and aging. Throughout the paper, examples are given of potential collaborations between researchers and practitioners working in religious and secular settings.
