Abstract
Indiscriminate application of terms such as gravidity, parity, number of births, viability, term, pre‐term and post‐term leads to confusion and frustration. Standardized terminology along with clear criteria for applying these terms will enhance communication between patients and providers. A collaborative, multidisciplinary dialogue to develop a consensus on standardized terms in obstetrics should take place among nurses, midwives and doctors practicing perinatal medicine.
