Abstract

A theoretical treatment, basically analytical, of both the record and replay processes in perpendicular magnetic recording is given. The form of the written magnetization transitions is calculated from first principles and is shown to follow the record head field shape. Replayed voltage pulses, both isolated and crowded, are determined via reciprocity techniques. Some experimental recording measurements are presented and analysed in terms of the theoretical predictions.
