Abstract

With the development of mobile technologies several mobile multicast methods were proposed, but most of them are based on the host-based mobility support specifications such as Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) which require the mobile hosts to support the mobility function. Recently, the Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) was proposed to provide the mobility support for mobile node without mobility function, and the previous studies have shown that the PMIPv6 can improve the handover performance. However, the PMIPv6 mainly concerns on the unicast routing support and little consider the multicast routing. In this paper, we study the PMIPv6 and propose two PMIPv6 multicast methods called the (Mobile Access Gateway) MAG-based method and (Local Mobility Anchor) LMA-based method to provide the multicast routing. We simulate two multicast methods to evaluate and compare their performance. The simulation results show that the MAG-based method has lower end-to-end delay and larger multicast handover delay, while the LMA-based method has the larger end-to-end delay and lower multicast handover delay.
