Abstract

This paper investigates the electromagnetic characteristics of a spinning magnet as a possible mechanical antenna. The equivalent relation between a spinning magnet and an orthogonal magnetic dipole is analyzed. Thus the performance of the mechanical antenna with a spinning magnet can be analyzed by superimposing the two collocated orthogonal magnetic dipole solutions with a 90° phase offset. With the dyadic green’s function in free space, the paper provided the rigorous analytic formula for field computation of the spinning magnet. The simulated results at 160 Hz are given and discussed. This work is intended to lay the foundation for future study on a mechanical antenna with a spinning magnet over the layered medium as well as on spinning magnet array applications.
