Abstract

Summary Child abuse often can be predicted and prevented. Even after abuse has occurred, successful therapy is possible in over 80% of families, a result not only of benefit to the abused child but also to the parents and to other children in the family. The field is an important area of preventive pediatrics. The cycle of child abuse can be broken.
