Abstract

Sports have been an integral part of my life since early childhood. I participated competitively until the end of my sophomore year in college when I realized that there was not much demand for a 68-in 180-lb foot-ball guard. My interest in sports continued, and in my medical school senior yearbook I am pictured reading the sports page. My dad, a family practitioner and sports enthusiast, was the physician for our local high school. I witnessed the joy and satisfaction he obtained from the job. After I married and left home, there were weekends he could not visit because he "had to" be at a game. When the opportunity arose in our school district, I applied and obtained the job of school physician.
