Abstract

Line identifications are presented for the sharp-lined silicon star HD 200311 in the spectral region 915. Comparison of its spectrum with the spectra of normal and other hot magnetic Ap stars shows that this star shares the anomalies of other silicon stars although it is unique in that it has also Ga U, Ce iii, Pr iii, Er III, and Pt ii lines. The measured wavelengths of HD 200311's Pt 11 and Hg ii lines are closer to laboratory values than the stellar wavelengths of Hg-Mn stars. The presence of doubly ioiiized rare earths in HD 200311 and in several cool Ap stars suggests a basic similarity of silicon and cool Ap stars.
