Abstract

A new control computer system is presented which has the capability to control real time problems including multitasking using the high level language PEARL. The hardware of the PLPC is composed of the widespread FORCE-Profl-kit 2 as CPU board, standard peripheral devices like low cost alphanumeric terminal and printer, and some process periphery boards which can easily be duplicated with laboratory means. The system software package which is resident in EPROM's comprises all the necessary components and utilities to support the development and execution of PEARL codedprograms. This was possible because a new concept allowed to construct a PEARL compiler that needs little memory space in comparison to other existing PEARL compilers. The discussed applications show both the powerful facilities and the low cost aspects of the PLPC. The discussed aspects prove, that the PLPC forms a welcome possibility to do real time computing for education organisations (e.g. universities) and industry when involved with automation projects of smaller size.
