Abstract

During the last decade, concerns about the decreasing number of medical students choosing pathology as a career prompted the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) to take action. Believing that the shortage is partially the result of the limited exposure medical students have to career pathologists, a pathology interest group was formed. As a result, the participants in the group have better understood the pathologist’s role in health care delivery. Since the creation of the pathology interest group, the percentage of graduating seniors pursuing pathology at UNMC is greater than the national average.
