Abstract

(1) A brief review is given of the literature concerning alimentary infection in the pathogenesis of tuberculosis in calves. (2) Following the feeding of infected milk to 36 calves over a period of twelve weeks, 23 showed lesions of tuberculosis when slaughtered. On the other hand, 37 calves receiving the same milk after pasteurisation were not affected. (3) The lesions in the diseased calves were confined to the pleural cavity and the significance of this finding in relation to the method of infection is discussed.
