Abstract

The Jan Waldenstrom Lifetime Achievement Award for contributions to the field of Multiple myeloma has been given since 1989 (Table 1). The list of recipients before me are giants in the field, and I am truly honored to have known and learned from most of them. One of the great benefits of being in the myeloma field is the collegiality, friendship, and mutual respect we share. There is a unique bond we have fostered as colleagues working on an incurable malignancy that frustrated us for a long time, but one in which we have witnessed in real time a dramatic progress in the last 20 years.
