Abstract

The surgical management of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in infants and children has been prominent among the many interests and publications of Eric W. Fonkalsrud, whom this symposium honors. This paper attempts to review of some of Fonkalsrud’s contributions relative to (1) antireflux surgery in small infants and (2) the role of gastric outlet modification to reduce post-fundoplication symptoms and fundoplication failures. The occasional case of esophagitis not corrected by fundoplication also deserves brief comment.
