Abstract

The partition of energy between the velocity and the magnetic fields in hydromagnetic turbulence is discussed. It is pointed out that in the framework of a universal theory the discussion must be restricted to the inertial range of eddy sizes which does not include the largest energy containing eddies. On a particular theory of stationary, homogenous, and isotropic turbulence it is shown that in this inertial sub-range the spectra of the magnetic and kinetic energies are both Kolmogorovian with a constant ratio of amplitudes; further, that in this range, the energy in the magnetic field is 1.6265 times the energy in the velocity field.
