Abstract

Water is an optimal solvent, reaction partner, or catalyst. Many organic substances do not react or only unsufficiently with or within water at lower temperatures. The behavior changes dramatically when temperature is increased. Near the critical point of water the solubility of water rises rapidly. Cyclohexane can be transformed into cyclohexanol, cyclohexanone, and cyclohexene in supercritical water.
