Abstract

The age of the albumin donor (calf or adult ox) has no effect on the basal lipolysis of fatty tissue in vitro or in lipolysis induced by adrenaline. The amount of collagen in adipose tissue is increased in old rats when related to nucleic acid content. Adipose tissue collagen from older rats (6 and 15 months) was found to be significantly less digestible by collagenase than that of 3-month-old rats as measured by the released hydroxyproline value. The significance of the qualitative changes in adipose tissue collagen is discussed in relation to previous findings of a decrease in lipolysis with age.
