w A / I. PRINTED BOOKS N I ORIGINALLY projected a description of the Morris L. Parrish Trollope collection, I naively supposed that dashing off a list of titles and filling the interstices with a running commentary would be a relatively simple and entirely feasible matter. I was forgetting, of course, that the collection numbers more than 350 different editions of works by Trollope as well as some twoscore miscellaneous items about him. To give full bibliographical citations is obviously out of the question, and even to catalogue properly all the important volumes would entail more space than is available. Furthermore, the result of a complete census would be a virtual reprinting of Mr. Sadleir's meticulous bibliography. I propose, then, to do no more than to call the chronological roll of Trollope's works, pointing out the most interesting bibliographical and associational items among the Parrish holdings. I hope that this rather unsatisfactory procedure may yet give a fairly clear impression of the magnitude and of the richness of this incomparable collection.' As Mr. Wilson points out elsewhere in this number, the Parrish library has a fine first issue of The Macdermots and also of The Kellys and the O'Kellys. The first of La Vendee appears in both bindings, the volume in green ribbed cloth having added interest as a presentation to M. A. Milton, June II, I850. The early copies of The Warden are first and third binding,' and there is an excellent copy of the first of Barchester Towers.
