Abstract

The Parent Therapist Program, an innovative concept in foster care, was created to serve a specialized population of hard-toplace, “difficult,” mostly black or hispanic adolescents. Foster parents met with a trainer for group support, problem-solving and special skills training; the goal was for trained foster parents to become paraprofessionals. The parents were specially trained to rehabilitate, remotivate and redirect the children.
