Abstract

The paper discusses the formation of the ideology of the German world among Pan-Germans. The author analyses the causes and prerequisites of the German myth, living space, and national unity. The paper also looks at various aspects of the implementation of the Pan-German League’s programme towards the construction of the German world. The ideology of the German world is seen as both a means of forming the imperial identity and of political struggle waged by the Pan-German League. The author studies the evolution of the political tactics used by the Pan-German league and the issues of continuity between Pan-Germanism and National Socialism. The author points to elements of the ideology of the Pan-German league in their relationship to National Socialism.
