Abstract

In the following group of four papers [Irving, 1963; Robertson, 1963; Stott, 1963; Irving, Robertson, and Stott, 1963], new paleomagnetic results from the Mesozoic of eastern Australia are described and previous work is reviewed. The results cover the period Lower Triassic to late Lower Cretaceous. Previously published paleomagnetic work from the Australian Mesozoic [Jaeger and Joplin, 1955; Almond et al., 1956; Irving, 1956; Boesen et al., 1961 ; Robertson and Hostie, 1962] was carried out on rock formations which, at the time of study, were poorly dated geologically, so that comparisons with results from other continents were difficult. Subsequently, much more paleomagnetic work has been done on other Mesozoic formations, and, what is most important, K-Ar age determinations have been made on many of these, providing a good time base for the results.
