Abstract

The Oxidation of Thiocyanate by a Cytoplasmic Particulate Fraction of Thyroid Tissue

Highlights

  • Methods35S-metabolites were characterized by ascending paper chromatography and paper electrophoresis by methods described previously [5, 10]

  • The oxidation of thiocyanate by this cytoplasmic particulate system is inhibited by the thyroid 105,000 x g supernatant (Table II)

  • This report describes a cytoplasmic particulate system derived from thyroid tissue that oxidizes thiocyanate, resulting in the formation of inorganic sulfate and a volative %Z-labeled compound

Summary

Methods

35S-metabolites were characterized by ascending paper chromatography and paper electrophoresis by methods described previously [5, 10]. Ascorbic acid was determined by the method of Maickel [11]. Analyses were done by means of the biuret [12]. Absorption spectra were recorded with a Cary model 14 spectrophotometer
