Abstract

Abstract The reactions of chromyl chloride with various phenolic compounds yield brown solids which in general do not have stoichiometric composition. The hydrolysis of these solids gives varying yields of the p-benzoquinones. The presence of chlorine in the position ortho to the phenolic oxygen results in increased yields of the quinone.
