Abstract
The Oxford Dictionary for Scientific Writers and Editors is a new and welcome member to the Oxford clan of scholarly reference books. It is a dictionary in a primary sense: a book of words, terms, names, abbreviations in alphabetical order. As stated in the Preface, it is ‘not intended to be a dictionary of science; many of the entries have only a brief definition, no definition at all, or sometimes an identifying subject label’.
