Abstract

1. (1) The conditions for the synthesis in vitro of valine from pyruvate by the 39 000 × g pellet fraction of Neurospora homogenate are described. This activity for valine synthesis was also obtained in the supernatant fraction by appropriate means of preparation of the homogenate. 2. (2) Evidence is presented which indicates that the overall synthesis of valine from pyruvate occurs in the presence of a complex of at least four enzymes which is bound in vivo to the particulate part of the cell.
