Abstract

The output degree of polarization (DOP) can be seriously influenced by polarization dependence loss (PDL) and polarization mode dispersion (PMD). We develop a mathematical description to study the output DOP influenced by PMD, PDL and chirp. The exact character of DOP is simulated with a two-concatenated-fiber model in the presence of PMD, PDL and chirp. Simulation results show that the output DOP may change with PDL even if PMD is invariable. On the other hand, the chirp of the pulse itself may affect the DOP of the output light. The exact influence by PDL and chirp can be decided by parameter γ2.
