Abstract

Several of the United Nations’ blue-helmet forces, particularly in Africa, have struggled to maintain order, and dissatisfied governments have been looking elsewhere for security assistance. And while many peacekeeping missions are winding down, deteriorating security conditions globally suggest that new UN forces may be created in the coming years in response to unexpected bouts of violence or unrest.
