Abstract

Everything I Never Told You tells a story about the crisis faced by an American transracial family. Focusing on the death of second daughter Lydia, the novel discusses social problems from the aspects of race, gender, and intergenerational conflicts. This paper analyzes the predicament of the other identity caused by race and gender from the perspective of post-colonialism, explores the real causes of the family crisis, and interprets the efforts made by family members to resolve conflicts. Meanwhile, this paper attempts to take Lydia’s tragedy as a warning to reduce misunderstanding and disharmony in family and social communication under multicultural background.
