Abstract

The ORP and pH profiles and the stability of Simultaneous Nitrification and Denitrification (SND) for low carbon municipal wastewater treatment were investigated under the different aeration modes in Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR). The results showed that the 92% removal efficiency for TN, the smallest average level of ORP and both of the variation of ORP and pH values are achieved in Intermittent Aeration (IA) with 0.5 aeration fraction and high air-on frequency. These results suggested that IA with small aeration fraction and high air-on frequency favourable for the stable SND. The average level of ORP fluctuation range and the stability of ORP and pH values are all beneficial for the stable and complete degree of SND.
