Abstract

ABSTRACTThis paper examines how the concept of ‘collectivism’, which emerged in debates in the International Workingmen’s Association (IWMA) about how to reform landed property, was largely shaped by transnational European discussions in the late 1860s and early 1870s about Pierre-Joseph Proudhon’s ideas both within the IWMA and the initially overlapping internationalist organization, the League of Peace and Freedom.
