Abstract

We reflect about the origin of the title of Euclids treatise The Elements. We argue that invention of terms like element represents a kind of bifurcation in the evolution of language which cannot be treated by conventional linguistic etymological methods because language evolves highly nonlinearly and in an unpredictable way under these circumstances and because the creative evolutional process is not adiabatic.
