The organizational environment and its influence on state criminal justice systems within the united states and the offender re‐integration process

Abstract

Criminal justice systems within the United States are described by some as in decline and have adversely impacted the offender re‐integration process. Effective planning is described as crucial when trying to identify methodologies and strategies to improve the criminal justice process, and in this case, successful implementation of offender reintegration programs. The organizational environment is identified as the social, political, economic and cultural influences impacting the system's mission, goals and objectives as well as the communication process between state criminal justice organizations throughout the United States. The findings of this study support the hypothesis that the organizational environment, primarily the crime control justice model, has negatively impacted state criminal justice systems throughout the United States. These factors have adversely impacted the effectiveness of the criminal justice system's expected outcomes.
