Abstract

Summary Erythrocyte glutamic pyruvic transaminase activity is reduced in patients with iron deficiency anaemia and can be restored in vitro by the pyridoxal phosphate co‐enzyme. This abnormality is related to the presence of oral epithelial lesions rather than to the degree of anaemia. It is suggested that pyridoxine deficiency may be associated with the occurrence of oral lesions in anaemic patients.
