Abstract

A recent letter to JACR by Nolan Jack Kagetsu, MD, [ 1 Kagetsu N.J. The timing of the oral boards, why radiology has it right!. J Am Coll Radiol. 2007; 4: 340 Abstract Full Text Full Text PDF PubMed Scopus (3) Google Scholar ] bore the title “The Timing of the Oral Boards, Why Radiology Has It Right!” Publication of his message underscores the fact that the issue of when a trainee will be first permitted to sit for the oral examination has once again stimulated interest, engaging the attention of chairs, program directors, private practice radiologists, and residents themselves. But a new sense of urgency has become apparent, because discussions about timing must now be related to an even more vital concern. That is the pressing need for radiology residencies and fellowships to be transformed to address emerging trends in imaging and the implications of those trends for the perpetuation of our specialty.
