Abstract

Influence of equilibrium approach as design parameter in GS plant based on H2S-H2O isotopic exchange for heavy water production is studied. The results obtained by modelling and the optimum finding are shown for a plant with a single cold feeding and with two hot-cold feedings. The optimum equilibrium approach for a minimum plant volume is obtained at a value of 98.2% and for a minimum specific cost of heavy water at 98.5%. For a plant with two feedings and optimum design and operation, the equilibrium approach at the top of first and second stage cold towers are both about 98.5% and that of the hot tower is about 97.3%.
