Abstract
1. Effects of cadmium and nickel on the calcium uptake by larvae of the clam Mulinia lateralis was studied using the 45Ca isotope tracer method. 2. Calcium uptake by larvae of M. lateralis was depressed by nickel but stimulated by cadmium. 3. A model was proposed to explain the opposing effects of cadmium and nickel on calcium uptake.
