Immature specimens of Calamostachys binneyana are described The most immature sporangiophores of these cones consist of a conical head on a short vascularized stalk and bear only two sporangia, whereas mature sporangiophores bear four sporangia Cone bracts mature quickly below the apical meristem and are identical to bracts of the peduncle Bract anatomy and epidermal cell pattern are similar to those of vegetative calamitean leaves Sporangiophores and bracts differ very early in their development and do not appear to be homologous structures
