Abstract

This article studies Xi Jinping’s statement of exploration of “one country, two systems” solution to Taiwan through two comparative analyses. The first part compares the proposition of the specific implementation form in Taiwan of the “one country, two systems” put forward by Xi Jinping in September 2014 with the “one country, two systems” solution to Taiwan stated in Xi Jinping’s “five points” proposal in January 2019, which expounds the basic context of the preparation and development of the national reunification program. The second part compares the concrete contents of Xi Jinping’s “five points” proposal with Deng Xiaoping’s “six points” proposal, which further explores the content, path, and characteristics of the solution to Taiwan. According to the fundamental principle of Xi Jinping’s “five points” proposal and the basic standpoint of the policy about Taiwan, this article emphasizes that the solution to Taiwan must be constructed separately, distinguishing from the Hong Kong-Macau model clearly. Meanwhile, this article focuses on the discussion of “soft scheme,” “hard scheme,” “two-stages scheme,” and “one-stage scheme” of the solution to Taiwan and puts forward the approach with setting two basic stages, focusing on solving five complex issues as well as combining hard and soft schemes in the content.
